Voces de Mujers—Reclaiming Our Space

Voces de Mujers—Reclaiming Our Space: A Recap of the Inspiring Event organized by KAMM Artistic Europe at Plato 24.

The event was an empowering and thought-provoking event aimed at highlighting the often overlooked contributions of women throughout history and in contemporary society. The event addressed the disparity in recognition between men and women by creating a platform where women's voices are amplified and celebrated.

Plato 24, located at C. de los Carrascales, 24, recently played host to an unforgettable event organized by KAMM Artistic Europe. This celebration of women, their achievements, and their struggles unfolded in two captivating parts, blending dialogue, performance, and visual art into a memorable experience.

Part 1:

A Journey of Understanding and Expression (18:00–18:50)

Upon entering Plato 24, the audience was warmly welcomed by Xavi Vila, project coordinator of KAMM, and guided to the performance stage room. Anais Cuna, the project coordinator of KAMM and the MC for the evening, set the tone with an introduction to the event's program and its significance. Kelvin Akpaloo, the chairperson of KAMM, then elaborated on the association's mission, spotlighting its various projects and partnerships that foster opportunities for young people and artists both locally and internationally.

The evening continued with a stimulating panel discussion featuring Anais, Diana Abdo (Project Manager of KAMM), who came from Berlin, Germany, and Lucia Alonso Herranz (Project Coordinator of KAMM). They engaged in a thought-provoking dialogue about the essence of womanhood, inviting the audience to share their perspectives and contribute to the conversation.

The atmosphere was further enhanced by Elvin, the DJ of the event, who skillfully curated the music, setting a vibrant tone that welcomed everyone and encouraged them to relax, have fun, and truly enjoy the event.

This insightful discussion was followed by a mesmerizing dance performance by the all-female collective, Colectivo La Nevera, which captivated the audience and set the stage for the rest of the evening.

Break

Refreshing Moments (18:50–19:00)

A brief interlude allowed attendees to recharge with complimentary drinks and snacks, courtesy of the venue, before embarking on the second part of the event.

Part 2

A Visual Feast and Inspiring Monologues (19:05–20:00)

The second part of the event began with an introduction to the photo exhibition by Diana and Lucia. They provided insights into the works of five talented female photographers, including Vanessa, who was present to share her creative journey and artistic vision.

The highlight of the evening was the series of monologues performed by seven talented actresses, each embodying a powerful and inspiring woman who has made a significant impact on society. From Camila Sosa, played by Lara Bertani, to Marina Abramovic, played by Bea Peña, to Vivian Maier, played by Monica Sastre, to Clara Campoamor, played by Ingrid Schramek, to Rigoberta Menchú, played by Sara Carrasco, and finally to Halima Aden, played by René Martín, these portrayals resonated deeply, shedding light on the challenges faced and triumphs achieved by these remarkable women.

Closing Moments.

As the event drew to a close, Anais delivered a poignant closing statement, emphasizing that the actresses were celebrating the women they portrayed rather than becoming them. Kelvin followed with a heartfelt speech, underscoring the importance of men's role in supporting women's rights and sharing his personal journey of being raised by strong women.

Lucia concluded the event by announcing a networking session featuring female photoshoots, drinks, snacks, and music, allowing attendees to connect and reflect on the evening's experiences.

Collaborations and Acknowledgments

The event was organized by KAMM Artistic Europe in collaboration with CGE-Culture Goes Europe, our partners in Germany for the COMPASS Project, which focuses on Creating Communication on Educational Programs with Under-engaged Communities. It also received support from the Young Voices of Africa, our partners in Africa, and served as a follow-up activity for the Acting Across Borders project, whose purpose was to serve as a platform for youth workers to learn, a place for NGOs to collaborate, and a spark that revitalizes communities at large. The project's aim was to address the main challenges facing youth work in the fields of immigration, multiculturalism, and diversity. It was coordinated by Beyond Borders in Norway and facilitated by Kelvin Akpaloo and Vlad Artiukhov.

A Memorable Evening

The event at Plato 24 was not just an event; it was a celebration of women, their resilience, and their contributions to society. The positive feedback from the audience was a testament to its success, affirming its role as a platform for dialogue, empowerment, and inspiration.

In the words of Rosa Parks, shared by Anais during her closing statement, "Stand for something or you will fall for anything." This event stood for something profound, and its impact will undoubtedly resonate for a long time to come.
